Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford turns down bumper contract offer from Saudi Arabia

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been at the center of intense transfer speculation during the January 2025 window, with reports indicating that he is seeking a loan move away from Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has openly stated his desire for a “new challenge,” which has led to a strained relationship with manager Ruben Amorim and resulted in his exclusion from the squad for the past ten matches.

Interest in Rashford has been high, with a Saudi Arabian club offering him a lucrative £600,000-per-week contract. However, the England international turned down the proposal, as he reportedly favors a move to Barcelona.

Despite Barcelona’s interest in reinforcing their attack with Rashford, the transfer faces significant obstacles. The Spanish giants would need to free up space in their squad, but players like Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia, who have been linked with exits, are unwilling to leave despite their limited playing opportunities. Additionally, Rashford currently earns £300,000 per week at Manchester United, and Barcelona would require financial assistance from the Red Devils to cover a significant portion of his wages. However, this arrangement might not be favorable for United, given their concerns over breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Earlier this month, Rashford seemed close to joining AC Milan, but the Serie A club ultimately decided to sign Kyle Walker instead, using up their final non-EU spot, thus ending their interest in the United forward.

Borussia Dortmund and West Ham United have also shown interest in acquiring Rashford. However, his high salary demands remain a major challenge for both clubs in finalizing a deal.

Rashford’s future remains uncertain. Manchester United now faces the tough decision of either keeping an unsettled player or negotiating a loan deal that aligns with their financial objectives while ensuring compliance with league regulations.
